Healthy Families Delaware has a family graduating in August who has been engaged in the program since her fourth son was born just over 3 years ago. Mom started the program as a recent immigrant with a dream of becoming a nurse and caring for children. Her Family Support Specialist, Lea Attarian, helped Mom clarify and define the steps needed to reach this goal. Mom took classes and was able to find a nursing study group to help when it came time to do her practice exams.

Mom also became pregnant again, and with support from her family was able to continue her studies. Mom was thrilled to recently give birth to a beautiful baby girl and the boys welcomed her to the family. Mom and Dad have also started looking for a larger home for their growing family.

Mom shared that Lea has been instrumental in providing information, encouragement, and support with her older sons, the focus child and their new baby sister. Mom has now taken and passed her Tests of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), which is a prerequisite for nursing school and covers knowledge of reading, mathematics, and science principles. Mom shared that she is excited to continue to thrive as a family and to begin the next phase of becoming a pediatric nurse.
